Dr. Rashawn Ray is the Edward McK. Johnson, Jr. Endowed Faculty Fellow and Co-Director of the Critical Race Initiative at the University of Maryland. Ray’s research addresses ways that that racial and social inequality may be attenuated through racial uplift activism and social policy. His recent work studies the growth of social movements and activism through technology and social media, including the evolution of #blacklivesmatter. Currently, Ray is co-investigator of a study examining implicit bias, body-worn cameras and police-citizen interactions with the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Adam Wenchel (B.S. ’99, computer science) joined Capital One in 2015 after the company acquired Anax Security, the startup Wenchel founded to apply machine learning to cybersecurity. He leads Capital One’s work in cybersecurity, technology and digital analytics. Recently, he created the Center for Machine Learning to catalyze the adoption of machine learning across Capital One.

Wenchel served as chair of the White House working group on universal authentication in K-12 education in 2012 and speaks often about machine learning at national conferences.

Farzin Arsanjani (B.S. ‘85 electrical engineering) is a hands-on executive with extensive technology startup experience in disciplines ranging from corporate development to international business development and general operations. He has co-founded and bootstrapped several startups with successful IPO’s, M&A’s and spinoffs. Currently, he serves as president of HyperOffice – a pioneer in the cloud collaboration and communication market. Additionally, Farzin is a board member and an advisor to various companies, professional organizations and non-profits.

Brad Antle (B.S. ‘77 business administration) has over three decades of experience as a leader in developing and delivering Information Technology solutions. He is the Chief Executive Office for SalientCRGT – a powerful combination in the Federal IT services industry positioned for leadership in IT Modernization, Business Intelligence, Digital Services, Cyber and Mobility.

Dr. Tamara Clegg’s work focuses on developing technology (e.g., social media, mobile apps, e-textiles, community displays) to support life-relevant learning where learners, particularly those from underrepresented groups, engage in science in the context of achieving personally relevant goals. She seeks to understand how learning environments and technologies support scientific disposition development. Tamara’s work is funded by the National Science Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Studies, and Google.
